Rehabilitación del Mercado histórico Baratillo y obra nueva complementaria

Abstract

El Rímac es uno de los distritos tradicionales de Lima Metropolitana con calles de un alto valor histórico. El río Rímac funciona como divisor de este distrito con el Cercado de Lima, ambos siendo parte del denominado Centro histórico de Lima. En el virreinato, el amurallamiento de Lima fue realizada principalmente para defenderla de posibles ataques externos, pero que, indirectamente separó a los dos tipos de clase social: la que estaba dentro de la muralla, reconocida como la cuidad de Reyes, en dónde se encontraban las personas que rendían cuenta a la corona española, siendo hoy en día el distrito de Cercado; y la que estaba fuera, la cual estaba liderada por indígenas llegados del exterior y los esclavos negros traídos de África, siendo los primeros en vivir y asentar el distrito que hoy en día conocemos como El Rímac; formando la cuna del criollismo limeño, no sólo por la música sino también por la comida popular que se creó detrás de la muralla. Comida inventada por necesidad y hecha con los residuos que el otro lado de la muralla no valoraba, y que en la actualidad forman parte de los platos bandera de nuestro país. A partir de este contexto, los mercados formaron parte de la identidad e intercambio cultural a través de la historia. Los mercados o ‘plazas’, conocidas así en la época virreinal, han ido evolucionando y adquiriendo cualidades para que sean las edificaciones que hoy conocemos. En el Rímac tenemos mercados denominados monumentos históricos, que pese a estar en lugares con alto carácter histórico, y albergar una cantidad notable de usuarios diariamente, no poseen un servicio completo y han perdido su valor histórico, ya que han sido transgredidos, destruidos y maltratados para poder adaptarse a la necesidad actual. Por ello, como consecuencia de reactivar el distrito y siendo parte del centro histórico de Lima, se propone una puesta en valor del Mercado Baratillo, agregando junto a él una obra nueva, realzando sus cualidades e integrándose al entorno inmediato, sin opacar lo existente. Esta rehabilitación podrá dar a conocer todas las cualidades arquitectónicas, sociales y económicas que posee, y así activar el distrito de una forma nueva e innovadora. Este proyecto busca que se conozca la historia y cultura de la sociedad criolla de Lima, de uno de los distritos más representativos de nuestro país, mediante la prolongación del circuito turístico del cercado de Lima, trasladándolo también hacia el Rímac, mejorando la calidad de vida en la población distrital, generando empleo y seguridad ciudadana.

The Rímac is one of the traditional districts of Metropolitan Lima with streets of high historical value. The Rimac River serves as a divider of this district with the Cercado de Lima, both being part of the so-called Historic Center of Lima. In the viceroyalty, the walling of Lima was done mainly to defend it from possible external attacks, but indirectly separated the two types of social class: the one that was inside the wall, recognized as the city of Kings, where the people who were accountable to the Spanish crown were located, being today the district of Cercado; and the one that was outside, which was led by indigenous people arrived from abroad and black slaves brought from Africa, being the first to live and settle the district that today we know as El Rimac; forming the cradle of Lima criollismo, not only for the music but also for the popular food that was created behind the wall. Food invented out of necessity and made with the waste that the other side of the wall did not value, and that today is part of our country's flagship dishes. From this context, the markets were part of the identity and cultural exchange throughout history. The markets or 'plazas', known as such in colonial times, have been evolving and acquiring qualities to become the buildings we know today. In Rimac we have markets called historical monuments, which despite being in places with high historical character, and house a remarkable number of users daily, do not have a complete service and have lost their historical value, as they have been transgressed, destroyed and abused to adapt to the current need. Therefore, as a consequence of reactivating the district and being part of the historic center of Lima, it is proposed to restore the value of the Baratillo Market, adding a new work next to it, enhancing its qualities and integrating it to the immediate environment, without overshadowing the existing one. This rehabilitation will make known all the architectural, social and economic qualities it possesses, and thus activate the district in a new and innovative way. This project seeks to make known the history and culture of Lima's Creole society, of one of the most representative districts of our country, through the extension of the tourist circuit of the Lima area, moving it also to the Rimac, improving the quality of life in the district population, generating employment and public safety.
