Gustave Eiffel en el Perú: La Iglesia Matriz de Tacna. Entre el mito y la realidad

Abstract

Gustave Eiffel ha figurado en el campo de la ingeniería y la arquitectura como el gran impulsador de las técnicas y sistemas constructivos innovadores en plena Revolución Industrial. Pero sus aportes no solo fueron científicos, sino también fue un gran empresario, visionario del mundo de los negocios y las inversiones extranjeras. Estas cualidades resaltan en el personaje que estudiamos ya que le permitieron llegar al Perú con testimonios de su ingenio y obra. La investigación no solo incluye los proyectos y obras realizadas por él en nuestro país, sino también aclara el enigma de una de estas obras, La Iglesia Matriz de Tacna.

Gustave Eiffel has been considered in the engineering and architecture fields as the promoter of innovative techniques and systems in the midst of the Industrial Revolution. But his contributions were not only scientific he was also a great entrepreneur envisioning the business world and foreign investments. Ali this qualities stood out in the persona we studied permitting him coming to Peru with examples of his genius and work. The purpose of this investigation is not only to include the projects and work carried out by Mr. Eiffel in our country but also to clarify thc enigma of one building, the Tacna's Cathedral.
